Manufacturers both large and small, well known and obscure, have been making vehicles across Texas since the dawn of the automobile age. What follows is a list of these companies, complied from a number of sources.

Arlington

  • 1911. The "Little Motor Kar Company" built the "Little Kar"
    Also had a facility in Dallas

  • 1954 – Today. General Motors is building Chevrolets & GMCs
    The major manufacturing plant now produces Suburbans & Tahoes

Austin

  • 1968 – ?? The "Bushmaster Company," 6615 N. Lamar, built the "Bushmaster"

Cleburne

  • 1911 – 1914. The "Cleburne Motor Car Manufacturing Company" built the "Luck" truck
    Other models. 1912 - 1913; the "Luck" Utility, 1913; the "Cleburne" car

  • 1918 - 1922. The "Texas Motor Car Association" built the "Texan"
    Also had a facility in Fort Worth

Comanche

  • 1915. The "Holden Three Wheeler Company" built the "Holden Three Wheeler"

Dallas

  • 1909 – 1970. The "Ford Motor Company" built cars & trucks.
    This was a major manufacturing plant in its day.

  • 1920. The "Texas Truck & Tractor Company" built the "Texas" car

  • 1920 - 1922. The "Wharton Motors Company" built the "Wharton"
    Also had a facility in Kansas City, Missouri

  • 1922. The "Little Motor Kar Company" built the "Texmobile"
    Also had a facility in Arlington

  • 1964 – 1965. The "Vanguard Motors Corporation" built the "Vetta Ventura"

Fort Worth

  • 1918. The "Bridges Motor Car & Rubber Company" built the "Bridges"

  • 1918 - 1922. The "Texas Motor Car Association" built the "Texan" car
    Other models. 1919- 1922; The "Texan" (truck). Also located in Cleburne

  • 1922. The "McGill Motor Car Company" built the "McGill"

Garland

  • 1946 - 1947. "Southern Aircraft" built the "Roadable"

Goose Creek

  • 1920 - 1922. The "Little Motor Car Company" built the "Little Car"

Grand Prairie

  • 1905 - 1906. The "Hawkins Automobile & Gas Engine Company" built the "Hawkins"

  • 1908 – 1910. The "Southern Motor Car Company" built the "Dixie Junior"
    Other models. The "Dixie Tourist"

  • 1920 - 1924. The "Southern Motors Company" built the "Southern Six (car)
    Other models. 1920-1923; The "Ranger" (truck)

Houston

  • 1968. The "VWC Specialty Company" built the VW based "Paisano Dune Buggy"

Kermit

  • 1915 - 1922. The "Blumberg Motor Car Company" built the "Blumberg"
    Also located in San Antonio

San Antonio

  • 1898. G.H. Lutz built the "Lutz Steam" car

  • 1910. The "Commercial Motor Car Company" built the "San Antonio"
    Also located in Houston, Texas

  • 1915 - 1916. The "Texas Motor Car Company" built the "Tex"

  • 1915 – 1922. The "Blumberg Motor Manufacturing Company" built the "Blumberg"
    Also located in Orange, Texas

  • 1919 – 1922. The "Lone Star Motor Car Company." Also known as the
    "Lone Star Truck & Tractor Association. Located at 515 Roosevelt

  • 1921. The "Robertson Company" built the "Robertson"

  • 2006 – Today. Toyota is building "Tundra" and "Tacoma" pick-up trucks

Waco

  • 1914 – 1916. The "Hall Cyclecar Manufacturing Company" built the "Hall Cyclecar"

Wichita Falls

  • 1911- 1932. The "Wichita Falls Motor Truck Company built heavy duty "Wichita" trucks.
    Other Models. 1920-1921; The "Wichita Combination Car."
