Highland Lakes Squadron of the
Commemorative Air Force, in Burnet, Texas
The Highland Lakes Air Museum is located at the airport just south of Burnet, Texas, on Highway 281, about 100 miles north of San Antonio. It is most definitely worth a visit. As well as the outdoor exhibits pictured here, the museum has a fascinating collection of military aviation related artifacts including, for example, the surprising tiny front gun turret from a Consolidated B24 Liberator bomber from World War Two. Run by the Highland Lakes squadron of the internationally famous Commemorative Air Force, you just might fnd them flying, testing or working on any number of military aircraft.
Flying in the "Texas Belle," a Douglas C-47 Skytrain in 2010
A small group of Texas Transportation Museum members visited the museum in the fall of 2010 to take an amazing flight in the Highland Lakes Squadron's Douglas C-47 Skytrain, the "Texas Belle." While you can see this wonderful aircraft at any number of air shows, nothing beats actually taking a flight in this historic plane. All you have to do is get a group of at least four people - but seven is better - and call the museum to arrange a truly memorable experience. It only costs $150.00 per person for a 30 minute flight over the Hill Country. With any luck the following snaps will encourage you to do the same.
