1898 Victorian Brougham
This 1898 Victorian Brougham Carriage was a prestigious town carriage, usually pulled by two, but sometime four, horses. This very upscale carriage, with beveled glass, top hat storage and a speaking tube to the driver, has rubber around its wheels to cut down on noise as it moved over cobbles, or in the case of San Antonio, streets paved with octagonal mesquite blocks. This carriage is on loan to the museum from the Institute of Texan Cultures.
This 1898 Victorian Brougham is a city carriage for the well to do. It is on loan from the 'Institute Of Texan Cultures' in San Antonio.
Deperately needing refurbishment, this 1898 Victorian Brougham carriage has all the hallmarks of a well thought out city vehicle. The driver sat high, the passengers low, and the large wheels are set in close to make the carriage as narrow as possible. Well protected inside, the passengers communicated with the exposed driver via speaking tube.
