Progress History (2011)

2013 - 2012 - 2011 - 2010 - 2009 - 2008 - 2007 - 2006

Dec 31, 2011 - Santa's Railroad Wonderland

Despite one of the wettest Decembers in San Antonio history, the museum's huge Christmas show went off very successfully. We had to cancel a few nights at the beginning, for the first time ever, but were flexible enough to be able to add replacement nights later on. The wind and rain caused havoc with our decorations, lights and parking lots but we managed to keep everything going and our visitors hardly even noticed the "back-stage" drama.

Dec 1, 2011 - New ADA ramps

Just in time for our major Christmas event, a number of additional ADA ramps were completed including a long ramp that will allow everyone to get from the depot level to the main display building level very easily.

Oct 29, 2011 - Oct 29 - Oct 30: Halloween Spook-Track-La

TTM's 2nd annual kid and family friendly Halloween Show, featuring the "Ghost Train," the "Train-sylvania Express" and "Haunted Hayrides" was a great sucess thanks to all our volunteers and guests. Our huge site was seasonally decorated, especially the outdoor garden railroad area, where there was a story teller. Visitors experienced a transportation museum in ways they could never imagine and certainly won't easily forget! Our evil imaginations ran wild with horrific ideas that made you tremble.

See more photos of the event on the Spook-Track-Ula 2011 Page.

Oct 9, 2011 - TTM web site renovation completed

Following a lot of effort, a much improved version of TTM's original web site begun 1n 2002 is released.

Aug 26, 2011 - Seven Active Tracks at the Garden Railroad

Briefly all seven lines at the garden railroad were in operation last Sunday, August 21, 2011. Trains were in operation on the three original loops at ground level. A "Thomas the Tank Engine" train ran around the "Island of Sodor" at kid level. And all three tracks on the brand new elevated layout were at work as well.

Jul 15, 2011 - A/C in Depot and main display building

A second window A/C unit was added to the historic depot. A major project to add central A/C to the main display building begins with the installation of power poles by CPS, and the instalation of two large A/C units donated by HEB.

Jun 1, 2011 - Ford Model T show

The annual Ford Model T show co-hosted by the "T Fords of Texas," San Antonio's huge Ford Model T club, attracted a record number of people thanks in part to the sponsorship of the Red McCombs Automotive Group. A video of the Ts driving past the Alamo was posted on You Tube.
