Ford Model T Tour of San Antonio's historic missions
Page hosted by the Texas Transportation Museum
Mobility Fires The Imagination
Efforts to restore San Antonio's historic missions began in earnest in the early 20th century. Access to
automobiles and buses allowed more people to visit them and recognize that San Antonio's missions, which had slid into
disuse and decay, were national treasures that needed to be restored and revitalized. To commemorate these visionary
conservation pioneers, the "T Fords of Texas," in partnership with the National Park Service and "Los Compadres," the
volunteer organization dedicated to helping the NPS maintain and improve these historically significant compounds, made a
tour of Mission Concepcion, Mission San Juan, Mission Espada and Mission San Jose at the beginning of the 21st centrury.
This is both to salute all the work done so far to preserve these amazing structures and a reminder that it is now our
turn to keep the missions alive for another 300 years, and more.
Date for Model T Mission Cruise 2010 - Saturday November 6
