AUSTIN
The Austin Steam Train Association, (512) 477-8468, runs the Hill Country Flier every weekend
from Cedar Park,just north of Austin, at US 183 & Rm 1431, to Burnet. The trip takes two hours
and runs through the beautiful hill country using old fashioned passenger cars. The trip
takes two hours each way, with a stop at Bertram, where the association has re-installed an old depot.

BANDERA
Pioneer Museum
Located in the "Cowboy Capital of the World," the museum, begun in1927, presents the early days of hill country life.
Its about one block north of the historic Bandera County court house. Call (830) 796-3864.
Admission: $2.00, 25 cents for children.
BOERNE
Agricultural Heritage Center
Railroad Park and Nature Trail, along the old Southern Pacific right of way.
Indoor and outdoor exhibits of the history of agricultural equipment and machinery. Open Wednesday & Sunday,
from 1:30 - 4:30 PM, on HWY 46E, one mile outside of the town. Admission is free.
BURNET
Highland Lakes CAF Air Museum
Austin Steam Train Association depot
Headquarters for Confederate Air Force Hill Country Squadron. Features WWII fighter planes,
firearms, photographs, and memorabilia. Open 9a.m.-5p.m., Sun. 1-5p.m. At Burnet Municipal
Airport, south on U. S. 281; (512) 756- 2226. Admission.
CASTROVILLE
Shooting Star Museum, located six miles south of Castroville as the crow flies.

CORPUS CHRISTI
The Lexington
The USS Lexington Museum on the Bay, is the renowned WWII aircraft carrier itself. It's $10 per adult,
$8.00 senior citizen or active military and $5.00 for children. It's a preety awesome experience, from
the flight deck and historical planes, to all the other details of this famous, long serving aircraft
carrier, declared sunk by the Japenese so many times, it gained the nickname, 'The Grey Ghost."

Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History
Among the other exhibits, if you really look hard, you just may find the Columbus replica fleet in 100% scale!
Two of the boats are at the museum, the Santa Maria and the Pinta, are on permanent display. The third, the Nina,
can be found, if it it isn't out at sea, in the marina near the business district.

The Age Of Steam Railroad Museum
Um, wow is the word that comes to mind descibing this museum. Let's just say UP Big Boy, up close and personal, or their Doodlebug,
or their excellently restored club car or . . . you get the picture. A must for the rail fan. Located in Fair Park, you need to call them for directions or check their site.

Frontiers Of Flight Museum
Located at Love Field Terminal LB-18, this museum seems to be a pretty good way to spend your time at the airport, as it has a lot of interesting exhibits spanning the
history of flight, from earliest days to the space station.

Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum
Defintely worth a stop, if you are in the area. The museum recalls the twon's days as the hub of the Houston and Central Texas Railroad.

FORT WORTH
Pate Museum of Transportion
It's in Cresson, really, on HWY 377, on the left if you are leaving Fort Worth. An amazing treasure trove of all kinds of transportation.
They have planes, helicopters, a mine sweeper, cars, trucks, etc, etc. It's new entrance is right on the main drag. Admission is free but
call ahead. It isn't always open at posted times in my experience but it's a labor of love, so all's fair

The Tarantula Railroad
Makes cross city trips to the 8th Ave Depot, the Stockyards and Grapevine, and it's depot based Historical Museum. The longer train ride starts at $20.00 peradult, the shorter
trip at $10.00. Quite a steal, and worth every dime.

Grapevine Historical Museum & Heritage Center
Check this out for excellence! The old depot gets abandoned and moved off its site. Who knows why
it wasn't just demolished, like so many others. But, amazingly, the Grapevine Heritage Foundation
bought the building and the original site and then moved it back! And now the Trantula steam train
makes daily stops. Gotta love it. Very, very cool! The rest of the old site, formerly the St Louis &
Southwester Railroad, aka the Cottoon Belt, loading dock area, is a city heritage center.

The Longhorn Museum
Locate on the outskirts of Pleasnaton on HWY 97, this museum owns the last remaining San Antonio
Uvalde & Gulf depot. It is the only known repository of information about the old "Sauasage."

Located about 12 miles south of Bastrop, on HWY 304, Rosankey is a small bump in the road town, and the museum is located outside of it! But, it
is very possibly one of the biggest and best automobiles museums in the country. The collection is phenomenal. A lot of cars, and all of them
interesting and worthwhile. What you might call a fiamond in the rough. You should not miss this place.
It is open Wed. - Sun. from April - Oct, and Fri. - Sun. during Nov. - March. On Sundays the hours are shorter. It opens at 12.00 noon, and closes at 5.00 PM as usual.
