Pete Shavney prepping the McKeever
for "Santa's Holiday Depot"
(see text below)

Peter Shavney is the museum's renaissance man. He is actively involved in every area of the museum.
He is a founding member of AMRE and was largely responsible for the group's establishment at TTM.
He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad from seven years, from 1948-53, before striking out with his
brother, Don, in a business they called "Club Shops" which specialized not only in work on Rolls-Royce and Bently but
also other European makes, mainly British and German. The company, formerly called "Shavney Brothers,"
was re-named to reflect that it was doing much of it's work on specialist cars owned by members of local clubs.
To this day is an old car buff and owns a 1946 Rolls-Royce. He is a founding member and was the first
treasurer of both the Rolls-Royce Owners Club and, if that wasn't enough, the Classic Car Club of America.
Topping that, he is a former race car driver and also a teacher
of those racing skills. One of his most famous students was none other than Skip Barber, who operates a
a very well known driving school. Also a former owner of a foreign car dealership, Peter brings a wealth of knowledge
and experience to our vehicle department. Not content with that, he is also actively involved with the
garden railroad group, SAGRES.

The NRHS chapter is actively involved in the care and restoration of the museum's static displays, as well as
engaging in researching the long, varied and fascinating history of the various railroads that have served
San Antonio and South Texas.

Pete has also personally funded several important projects at TTM, not the least of which was the new compound
curve path between the railroad tracks and the main display building.
Pete was also the driving force behind the creation of the "Longhorn Chapter." Thanks to his efforts the
museum is now part of the renowned national network of railroad enthusiasts and historians. He is the chapter's
national director, and has attended several national conventions, especially the one near his birthplace,
Baltimore, Maryland.

Peter's piano shop and the new S.P. (Shavney Piano) Railway
Not a man short of talents, Peter is also a fine musician. He has a thriving piano business, which is involved
in new sales, restoration of older pianos and teaching piano to students young and old.
Peter may contacted at (210) 737-3969.
